On the journey of attaining the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UK government is launching a Voluntary National Review of the Sustainable Goals and inviting individuals and organizations to share their efforts and achievement.
To report on your contribution, you only need to complete a short review form with a total of 10 questions. You will be asked to give brief introduction and explanation of your projects, such as the partners or collaborated parties, the beneficiaries and extensiveness of your work, the particular SDGs goals you are targeting on, the promotion means adopted for your projects and the SDGs, and some concrete evidence which demonstrates your efforts and impacts.
The Voluntary National Review will be submitted by the UK Government to the United Nations before the High Level Political Forum in July 2019. Therefore, it is encouraged that individuals and organisations should complete their submission by 16 November 2018, so that the UK Government would have enough time for reviewing and selecting data, thus putting up a comprehensive Voluntary National Review which outlines UK’s domestic and international efforts in different levels and sectors in advocating the 17 SDGs, and most importantly, is supported by actual data.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong government has recently set up a Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) which aims at tackling SDGs at local level, so as to catch up on the international agenda.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals is an initiative launched by the United Nations which aim to address the challenges commonly faced by countries around the world. The 17 goals are ‘No poverty’, ‘Zero hunger’, ‘Good health and well-being for people’, ‘Quality education’, ‘Gender equality’, ‘Clean water and sanitation’, ‘Affordable and clean energy’, ‘Decent work and economic growth’, ‘Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure’, ‘Reducing inequalities’, ‘Sustainable cities and communities’, ‘Responsible consumption and production’, ‘Climate action’, ‘Life below water’, ‘Life on land’, ‘Peace, justice and strong institutions’ and ‘Partnerships for the goals’.
It is hoped that all 17 SDGs can be achieved by 2030, which does not only require the dedication of the authorities and big organisations, but also efforts of individuals and small companies in all sectors all over the world.
