Coca-Cola Great Britain and Merlin Entertainments have walked into a tie-up to encourage the recycling of plastic bottles. The partnership is to offer 50% discount to people on entering the UK’s most famous attractions if they exchange their used drinking plastic bottle. Vending machines will be installed to instantly reward those who will drop their empty bottles into it. The reason to enter this partnership was a survey, conducted by Coco-Cola Great Britain, which revealed that 64% of the people of Britain will recycle more if awarded.
The summer trial for the same is supposed to run from July 25th to October 19th. During this trial period, people can walk in and drop plastic bottles of capacity 500ml and claim their reward. The recycling will be performed via the vending machines installed within the parks. The machines will reward people with 50% off on an entry in 30 Merlin attractions. These thirty attractions will include places like Alton Towers Resort, Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, LEGOLAND Windsor, etc.
Coca-Cola Great Britain launched its sustainable packaging strategies all around the world in the year 2017 intending to recycle as much as the possible number of bottles. This includes collecting the used bottles and then recycling them. The aim is to reduce plastic waste to negligible percent. To make this happen, it entered into a partnership with Merlin a year after.
According to Jon Woods, General Manager of Coca-Cola Great Britain, people should be awarded and encouraged for the right things such as recycling. Also, he said that it is one of their initiatives to achieve a world without waste. They buy more plastic waste than any other company in the UK to achieve their target.
Sandra Hazel, Head of Force for Good at Merlin Entertainments, said: “This partnership with Coca-Cola Great Britain demonstrates our shared ambition to use our brands for good. We’re constantly looking for ways to raise awareness and help contribute to a better environment. As a responsible business and an advocate for marine conservation, we’re pleased to be joining forces with Coca-Cola Great Britain to encourage people to recycle more this summer, by rewarding them with family fun.”
With initiatives like this, Coca-Cola Great Britain aims to double the recycled plastics in plastic bottles from 25% to 50% by 2020, just to make sure that their bottles are as sustainable as they said.
